Background Information

Yi Sun-Sin is a Korean admiral and military general whose is famous for his victories against the Japanese navy during the Imjin War in the Joseon Dynasty. He is a celebrated national hero in Korea.
Over the course of his military career, Admiral Yi Sun-Sin fought at least 23 naval engagements all against the Japanese. Most of these naval battles, he was outnumbered and lacked the necessary equipment to defeat the enemies.
His most famous victory happened at the Battle of Myeongnyang, even though he was outnumbered 133 warships to 13 ships. He managed to destroy at least 31 Japanese ships without losing a ship at all. Yi Sun-Sin died of a gunshot wound on December 16th, 1598 during the naval Battle of Noryang.
