Trajan was a successful solider-emperor who ruled Rome from 98 to 117 A.D. The Rome Senate declared and remembered him as the Optimus Princeps (meaning best ruler). Trajan presided one of the second-greatest military expansion in Roman history after Augustus, which led the Rome Empire to attain its maximum territorial by the time of his death.

Trajan is also known for his philanthropic rule and oversaw several public building programs as well as implementing social welfare policies. Which has earned him the reputation as the second of the Five Good Emperors who ruled the Rome Empire with peace and prosperity in the Mediterranean World.

Trajan is a new legendary commander in Rise of Kingdoms. To obtain Trajan, your kingdom server has to be at least 300 days old. Additionally, Trajan can be obtained only through the Wheel of Fortune event. This is a very strong commander with awesome skill set and flexible combat playstyle. Which makes him an excellent choice to have in your commander roster.

To summon Trajan in Rise of Kingdoms, you will need to gather 10 Trajan sculptures. Once you have the required materials, navigate to the Commander Selection tab on the lower right corner. Tap on the button to summon Trajan.

Trajan Skills


In this section, we will talk about Trajan’s skills and how you can use his skillset to your advantage. Trajan is a flexible commander, which means he is capable of dealing damage as well as relying on major buffs to further boost his combat capabilities — especially when paired with powerful commanders like Guan Yu, Jadwiga and Ragnar Lodbrok.

Trajan ROK Commander

Trajan’s Column

Active Skill

Deals direct damage to the target. Troops led by this commander and nearby allied troops gain bonus skill damage and 15 additional rage per second for 3 seconds. However, at the same time, incoming damage is increased by 25% for 3 seconds.

  • Damage Factor: 100/150/200/250/300
  • Skill Damage Bonus: 10% / 13% / 16% / 20% / 25%
  • Rage Bonus: 15/20/25/30/40

Trajan’s Column: A solid active skill that does a minor damage, but applies debuff on a target, causing them to take 25% extra skill damage and grants 40% additional rage per hit. Which makes this active skill important to have high up time.

Expanding Borders

Passive Skill

Increases the defense of troops led by this commander. Troops also get HP bonus when they are not in the Alliance territory!

  • Defense bonus: 5% / 8% / 11% / 15% / 20%
  • Health bonus: 5% / 8% / 11% / 15% / 20%

Expanding Borders: A simple passive skill that grants 20% increased defense and health for all the troops led by Trajan. Solid passive skill.

Great Expeditions

Passive Skill

Increase troop capacity of the Trajan’s dispatch. When there are 3 or more different types of units in the army, they deal additional direct damage to the current target when using an active skill and increase the damage dealt to the target by 4 sec.

  • Troop capacity bonus: 2% / 4% / 6% / 8% / 10%
  • Direct damage Factor: 100/150/200/250/300
  • Target takes more damage: 5% / 8% / 11% / 15% / 20 %

Great Expeditions: If Trajan is leading more than three troop types, then the troop capacity is increased by 10% and deals 300 extra damage with active skill. Furthermore, the target takes 20% increased damage for the next 4 seconds.

Battle of Tapae

Passive Skill

Normal attacks offers a charge bonus to the unit defense for 10 seconds. The duration resets when a new charge occurs. Can stack up to 10 times. The effect can only occur once every 8 sec.

  • Defense bonus: 2% / 3% / 4% / 5% / 6%

Battle of Tapae: This is actually a very strong passive skill. Each normal attack have a chance to grant a charge that increases defense by 6% for 10 seconds. It can be stacked up to 10 times, which equates to 60% defense bonus.

Five Good Emperors

Enhanced Skill: Trajan’s Column

Deals direct damage to the target (Damage Factor 400). Troops led by this commander and nearby allied troops gain +30% bonus skill damage and 50 rage per second for 3 seconds. At the same time, damage taken is increased by 25% for 3 seconds.

Five Good Emperors: This is a solid expertise skill that increases the direct damage to 400, grants nearby allied troops 30% bonus skill damage and generates 50 rage per second for 3 seconds. Targets also take more damage which makes Trajan a very powerful support commander.

Since this is PVP talent build, it is important to have some healing effect increase. This talent build grants 18% healing effect bonus and that is a big boost. If Trajan gets healed, then his troops will do even more damage that actually helps tide the battle into your favor — especially as a support commander.

Field Talent Build

If you like to play offensively, then the Trajan’s field support talent build is a solid choice. This talent tree focuses heavily on increasing overall damage output as well as strengthening your troops’ combat capabilities against enemy forces. Hannibal Barca

Easily one of the best legendary commanders to pair with is Hannibal Barca. He comes with a strong healing abilities and powerful offensive skill that does ton of damage. Not to forget to mention that his active skill applies damage and defense reduction debuff which benefits a lot when fighting against strong commanders like Mehmed II and Guan Yu.

Trajan and Hannibal Barca makes the perfect pairing because Trajan gives 20% health and defense bonus on the map, while Hannibal Barca further enhances troops’ damage on the go. This means both commanders have each other’s base covered and they do really get very powerful due to massive stat boost thanks to skill damage bonus factor that Trajan has to offer.

Frederick I

If you are looking for a solid commander with strong leadership capabilities. Then look no further because Frederick I is one of the best commanders that deals powerful direct damage with his active skill. Scipio Africanus have good skill set that greatly enhance the troops damage, which makes him one of the most compatible commander to pair with. Alternatively, you can pair Julius Caesar with Trajan if you do have him and that his skills is maxed out. Essentially, Julius Caesar is a much stronger version of Scipio Africanus for highly developed governors.

With the 30% skill damage bonus and fast rage generation means Charlemagne can do even more damage in matter of minutes compared to other commanders. The 20% troops health and defense is also nice to have as Charlemagne is mainly a city attacker commander and stands to benefit a lot from this skill bonus.

While this legendary commander is strong in attacking cities, he does comes with a mini shield which benefits from the 30% skill damage bonus. Instead of generating a shield that have a value of 1,000 points. Charlemagne can create a slightly stronger shield up to 1,300 points that will help this pairing withstand incoming damage for slight longer.

Moctezuma I

If you are looking for an alternative commander to level up fast and to kill barbarians quickly. Moctezuma I is one of the best barbarian commanders that can make a quick work out of burning barbarian camps to ground. However with Trajan’s skills, both commanders will be able to benefit from each other.

Moctezuma brings 50% damage bonus against barbarian and deals 1,400 damage with his active skill. In addition to that, he reduces the target health by 50% and recovers portion of the troops by healing whenever he is hit with an active skill. Trajan can help Moctezuma I big time with his 30% skill damage bonus, +20% defense and health bonus. Plus if both commanders are running 3 or more troops type, then that is another 20% additional damage on top of it.
