Moctezuma I was often mistaken for his descendant, Moctezuma II. The Aztec Emperor brought significant economic, social and political progress that made the empire one of the most famous until Spanish arrival. He ruled the empire in peace from 1440 to 1453 and strengthened the relations with other cities.

Moctezuma I is a new legendary commander that is being introduced in Rise of Kingdoms. In order for the Governors to summon Moctezuma I, the kingdom server has to be at least 300 days old. Additionally, Moctezuma I can be only collected as sculptures via the Mightiest Governor event. This legendary commander comes with a decent skillset pool that makes him one of the best late-game barbarian commanders.

To summon Moctezuma I in Rise of Kingdoms, you will need to gather 10 Moctezuma I sculptures. Once you have the required materials, navigate to the Commander Selection tab on the lower right corner. Tap on the button to summon Moctezuma I.

Land of the Prickly

Active Skill

Deals direct damage to the current target and reduces its counterattack damage for 4 sec.

  • Damage Factor: 600/800/1000/1200/1400
  • Counterattack Damage Reduction: 3% / 6% / 9% / 12% / 15%

Land of the Prickly: A very powerful active skill that does ton amount of damage. Plus it reduces the target’s counterattack damage by 15% for 4 seconds, which makes this active skill pretty awesome to have for 1v1 battles.

Flower War

Passive Skill

Troops led by this commander deal more damage to barbarians and neutral units. Both commanders gain extra experience. Attacks on barbarians have a 10% chance to reduce the target’s health for 3 seconds. The effect can only occur once every 3 seconds.

  • Damage bonus to Barbarians: 10% / 20% / 30% / 40% / 50%
  • Bonus experience:  5% / 10% / 15% / 20% / 25%
  • Target health reduction: 20% / 25% / 30% / 40% / 50%

Flower War: This is a solid passive skill that grants 50% damage bonus to barbarians and neutral units. Commanders also gain 25% experience bonus which is nice to have — especially if you want to power level commanders and grow your power fast. Plus there’s a chance to reduce target’s health by 50% for 3 seconds wand that helps a lot.

Jaguar Warrior

Passive Skill

Troops led by Moctezuma I receive a bonus to march speed and to attack. If the target has HP reduction debuff, troops are healed when attacking with normal attacks. The effect can only occur once every 5 sec.

  • March speed bonus: 2% / 4% / 6% / 8% / 10%
  • Attack damage bonus: 5% / 8% / 11% / 15% / 20%
  • Healing Factor: 300/400/500/600/700

Jaguar Warrior: This is another well-known passive skill, a solid skill. Moctezuma I troops gain 10% march speed bonus and deals 15% additional damage. As a bonus, if the target has HP reduction debuff, then Moctezuma I is healed by 700 points.

Triple Alliance

When this commander starts a rally, the rally capacity is increased. When Moctezuma’s troops take damage from skills, they immediately deal direct damage to the attacker. The effect can only occur once every 5 sec.

Triple Alliance: Awesome passive skill to have for assembling a massive rally against hard-to-beat barbarian fortresses. Rally army capacity is increased by 10% and if Moctezuma I takes damage from skills, then immediately deal 600 damage against them.

Worship the Divine

Enhanced Skill: Triple Alliance

When this commander launches a rally attack, the capacity of the rally is increased by 10%. When Moctezuma’s troops take damage from skills, they immediately deal direct damage to the attacker (Damage Factor 800). The effect can only occur once every 4 sec.

Worship the Divine: Improves the Triple Alliance skill by increasing the damage factor from 600 to 800 and lowers the trigger timer from 5 to 4 seconds. Which makes this a very strong passive skill to have out of any legendary commanders.

Just like the first talent build, most of the talent points are focused at additional rage generation to help Moctezuma I maintain high uptime with his active skill.

Furthermore, the Hybrid Talent build takes advantage of the leadership ability to increase the troop capacity as well as granting 3% attack / defense bonus if Moctezuma I is commanding more than three troops type. Moctezuma I also deals significant more damage with his active skill under this talent build, which is the goal if you want to do more damage.

Field Support Talent Build

Finally, if you prefer to play Moctezuma I for PvP battles due to his awesome counterattack damage debuff. This is actually a very decent talent build to use. Aethelflaed

Aethelflaed Rise of Kingdoms Commander

This is indisputable the best legendary commander to pair with Moctezuma. Aethelflaed‘s active skill cause 30% attack, defense and health reduction debuff against 5 targets. At the same time, she deals a massive amount of damage that cripples the targets. When the targets’ movement are slowed, the troops deals 20% extra damage.

Moctezuma I can benefit a lot from Aethelflaed’s awesome skill set in addition to counterattack damage reduction, attack bonus, and march speed bonus. Bonus point, if both commanders are leading 3 or more troops type then it is another 20% extra attack stat boost. This is the perfect killing machine for barbarian farming.

Ragnar Lodbrok

Easily one of the best commanders to pair with is Ragnar Lodbrok. If you are looking for ways to further increase the pairing overall damage. Ragnar Lodbrok brings a powerful active skill that temporarily increases damage by 40% and reduces damage taken by 20%. Additionally, all troops gain 20% attack bonus.

When Moctezuma I is leading the party, Ragnar Lodbrok can continuously provide buff from his active skill at rapid pace thanks to tremendous rage generation improvement. This combo is absolutely a blast to have if you want to be able to effectively farm barbarians and high-level camps with minimal resistance.

Hannibal Barca

Another good commander to pair with is Hannibal Barca. He comes with much-needed healing abilities and offensive skill set that does quite a ton amount of damage. His active skill applies damage and defense reduction debuff up to three targets which helps a lot when you are fighting against multiple targets, both barbarians and players alike.

The Moctezuma I and Hannibal Barca is a good combo because both have each other base covered. Moctezuma I is able to provide powerful direct attacks with his active skill. At the same time, Hannibal Barca delivers splash damage with his active skill and brings in a steady flow of healing that keeps the troops going for a long time.

Trajan

Trajan Rise of Kingdoms Commander

If you are looking for a strong commander who can increase the skill damage by a large margin. You will want to pair Moctezuma I with Trajan. He comes with a solid active skill that grants 50 rage per second, increases skill damage by 30% and does 400 additional damage. Furthermore, all troops gain 20% health and defense bonus while on the map.

The 30% extra skill damage is pretty big deal, especially for hard hitter like Moctezuma who will get 480 extra skill damage points. On the top of that, his passive skill will also do another 180 skill damage point upon countering enemy’s skills. Trajan is also a solid commander due to his defensive passive skill which grants a Charge stack. Each stack provides 6% defense bonus and can be stack up to 10 times. Basically, that is 60% extra defense with this combo on the top of powerful offensive capabilities.

Richard I

Some governors might prefer to play something more unique. The Richard I + Moctezuma I combo is a decent pick for sure. Richard I comes with powerful self-healing capability and does 30% additional healing. Which will affect Moctezuma I’s healing skill whenever he is hit by an active skill.

The fact that this combo is one of the best because Richard applies debuff up to 5 targets. At the same time, Moctezuma reduces counterattack damage by 15% and improves attack by an additional 20%. Richard I increases counterattack damage by 10% and reduces damage taken by 15%. The Richard I + Moctezuma I is an awesome way to keep your enemies at bay and frustrate them with powerful counterattack abilities.

Julius Caesar

Lastly, if you are in need of a good legendary commander that can enhance your troop capacity size. Julius Caesar is a decent commander to pair with Moctezuma. He grants 20% defense and attack bonus to all troops. At the same time, all troops deals 30% extra damage for 5 seconds.

This is great, especially when Moctezuma I is leading as the primary commander so that Julius Caesar can benefit from the improved rage generation. On top of this, both commanders will gain 15% extra troop capacity and take 10% less damage.

However, if the total troops strength is below 60% then gain 30% additional damage reduction. Which is a big help especially when fighting against multiple targets. If you do not have Julius Caesar yet, then Scipio Africanus is a good alternative choice.
