Background Information

Minamoto no Yoshitsune ROK Guide

Minamoto no Yoshitsune was a military commander of the Minamoto clan of Japan in the late Heian and early Kamakura periods.

During the Genpei War, he led a series of battles which toppled the Ise-Heishi branch of the Taira clan, helping his half-brother Yoritoomo consolidate power.

In year 1189, Fujiwara no Yasuhira, the son of a trusted ally, fearing of the pressure from Yoriomo, betrayed Yoshitsune, surrounding his Koromogawa-no-tachi residence with his troops, defeating his retainers, and forcing Yoshitsune to commit seppuku.

Yoshitsune is considered one of the greatest and the most popular warrior of his era, and one of the most famous samurai fighters in the history of Japan.

By default, this is the optimal talent build for doing extra damage towards barbarians. Which really helps a lot with farming resources and off setting the losses when healing your troops.

This talent build also speeds up the rage generation, allowing Minamoto no Yoshitsune to do more damage with his active skill. Good talent for killing barbarians and when pairing with other barbarian hunter commanders.

PvP Talent Build

Yes, Minamoto no Yoshitsune is good at PvP battle with this specific talent build. While that means his 50% damage bonus towards barbarians will be worthless in Arenas and Expedition. It’s worth mentioning that this talent build works well with any commander who is serving as secondary commander due to the 6% damage bonus to active skill. Good for doing more damage to players.

Field Talent Build

Cao Cao

Cao Cao Commander ROK

One of the best commander to pair with is Cao Cao. He has the same skill set and is another solid barbarian hunter, except he focuses on mobility (speed). Cao Cao gives 10% march speed and increases cavalry attack by 30%.

That bonuses goes really nice with Minamoto no Yoshitsune’s peacekeeping talent build. And if you decide to do field talent build, it will also work well because Cao Cao active skill does a massive damage and demolish their attack temporarily.

By far, Cao Cao is a solid pick to pair with.

Genghis Khan

Another good commander to pair with is Genghis Khan. In this combo, Genghis Khan assumes the role as the primary commander, mainly because you want to retain most of his powerful damage abilities. While both have the same focuses, Minamoto No Yoshitsune will be able to benefit more from Genghis Khan thanks to 30% skill damage bonus.

Whenever this combo’s army strength is above 70%, the damage is increased by 30% which really helps a lot with doing significant strikes early in the battle phase.

Takeda Shingen

If you are looking to boost your troops’ normal attack damage by a large margin, pair with Takeda Shingen. In this combo, he takes the role as secondary commander. Mainly because to want to keep the talent build that your Minamoto No Yoshitsune has.

However, one of the perk this duo has is massive boost to attack, defense and march speed. Every time he uses his active skill, troops gets healed by a small amount. Skill damage taken is reduced by 5%. A solid commander to build a tanky pair.

Belisarius

Belisarius Commander ROK

If you do not have any of these legendary commanders above. You can pair Minamoto with Belisarius who happens to excel at killing barbarians as well. This pair maximizes effectiveness of hunting the barbarians due to increased attack vs neutral units, faster movement speed and accelerates the amount of experience gained which makes it easy to level up Minamoto.

While Minamoto focuses on increasing the overall damage done to barbarians. Belisarius does most of the heavy lift in the backend by providing improved speed, experience, attack and defense. This is a pair if you want speed and accelerated leveling.
