Background Information

Frederick I Rise of Kingdoms Guide

Frederick I, also known as Frederick Barbarossa, was the Holy Roman Emperor from 1155 until his death. Historians consider him among the Holy Roman Empire’s greatest medieval emperors.

He combined qualities that made him appear almost superhuman to his contemporaries: his ambition, his skills at organization, his battlefield acumen and his political perspicuity.

Among his contribution to Central European society and culture include the re-establishment of the Corpus Juris Civilis, or the Roman rule of law, which counterbalanced the papal power that dominated the German states since the conclusion of the Investiture Controversy.

Frederick died in 1190 in Asia Minor while leading an army in the Third Crusade.

Most of the commanders who are equipped with powerful nuking skills are specialized in one type of army. Which means if you want to maximize your combat effectiveness, you will want to use this conqueror talent build for Frederick I in order to work with specialized commanders like Genghis Khan or Tomyris. This talent build greatly improves the damage of skills and accelerates the rage generation, making it a popular choice for doing massive amounts of damage.

If you want to do a mixed army using 3 or more types of troops, this is the best talent build to use. Basically, it gives 3% bonus to both attack and defense when you do 3+ types of troops. Best Commander Pairs

In the next part of our best Frederick I commander guide for beginners, we will talk about which commanders to pair with. Below is a list of best commanders to pair with Frederick I, given their skills and specializations to maximum your combat effectiveness with this legendary commander:

Mehmed II

Mehmed II Commander Rise of Kingdoms

One of the best commanders to work along for a mixed army is Mehmed II. He is a very powerful nuker and both can work with each other to benefit from dual troop capacity (upwards to 30% bonus) and increased damage towards enemy garrisons.

Mehmed II also has the upper hand to deal additional damage when attacking enemy cities, making him a formidable commander to play with. In this pair, Frederick I takes the role as a primary commander so as to grant bonus damage for skills.

Alternatively, if you don’t have Mehmed II yet then Aethelflaed is a good choice (hint, she is a free legendary commander and easy to get via Expedition Store).

Hannibal Barca

Hannibal Barca Commander Rise of Kingdoms

Another solid commander to pair with is Hannibal Barca. He does deal damage towards single targets with his active skill. But with enhanced skill, he does damage upwards to 3 targets and reduces their attack / defense by 25%. Which makes this combo incredibly easy to work because they can quickly kill the enemies.

Bonus point, if you do 3+ troops type then both will gain 15% damage bonus. A big point for doing mixed army talent builds.

Genghis Khan

In this pair, Genghis Khan takes the role as primary commander. Although Frederick I will be able to benefit from the active skill damage bonus via Genghis Khan’s talent build. One of the main advantages this combo has over other recommended commanders is speed and attack.

Genghis Khan can whip out massive damage within a matter of seconds which will pretty much leave your enemies crippled. If this combo army strength is below 50%, then gain 25 more rage on each attack which benefits Frederick I a lot especially with maintaining his active skill uptime.

Overall, a solid combo for speed and attack.

Joan of Arc

Joan of Arc Commander ROK

If you do not have any of these legendary commanders above, then your next best epic commander will be Joan of Arc. At first glance, Joan of Arc might across as a gathering commander to some of you. But she is actually incredible strong thanks to her powerful active skill which grants tremendous buff to all troops.

She is considered as one of the strongest epic commander that’s able to support varied army and withstand some of the hardest attacks. Not to forget to mention that she also can support nearby friendly allies with her buff. Which makes her a potential choice to pair with Frederick I.
