Background Information

El Cid ROK Guide

Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar was a Castillian nobleman and military leader in medieval Spain. The Moors called him El Cid, which meant the Lord (probably from the original Arabic al-Sayyid, السَّيِّد).

In 904, after the fall of Valentia, El Cid established an independent principality on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. He ruled over a pluralist society with the popular support of Christians and Muslims alike.

The figure of El Cid has been the source for many literary works, beginning with the Canter del Mio Cid, an epic poem from the 12th century which gives a partly-fictionalized account of his life.

This poem, along with similar later works such as the Mocedades de Rodrigo, contributed to portray El Cid as a chivalric hero of the Reconquista, making him a legendary figure in Spain.

Introduction

Welcome to our in-depth Rise of Kingdoms guide for El Cid. This informative guide was created to help provide an overview of El Cid skills, talent trees, gameplay, strategies, and guides in Rise of Kingdoms. The purpose of this overview guide is to help new and experienced players understand how to play El Cid right and maximize strategic advantages.

El Cid is a legendary commander who specializes in archery, unlike his epic commander counterpart, Pelagius who specializes in cavalry. This legendary commander has a nationality of Spain and is one of the good commanders to play with. However, in this part, we will teach you how to play El Cid at his best, which means maximizing his combat effectiveness so that you can do more damage with him.

To summon El Cid, you must get 10 El Cid sculptures which typically are done via chests and daily wheels. When you have the materials required, go to the commander selection tab screen and tap on him to add to your roster. That being said, let’s get into the details and learn what his skills, best talent builds and popular pairs are.

Best El Cid Skills

Before we kick start the list of best El Cid skills, I do want to share a simple remark to you about this legendary commander. El Cid isn’t the best commander in Rise of Kingdoms all by himself due to the skill set that he is equipped with. However, if you are looking to build a silencer combo that can pretty much lock out a nuker, then stick around with us because in this part you will learn why El Cid is our recommended silencer commander along with Hermann.

El Cid Rise of Kingdoms Guide
Famous Warrior

Rage Requirement: 1000

Deals direct damage to the target, and disables target’s normal attacks and active skills for 1 second.

Upgrade Preview:

Direct Damage Factor: 500 / 600 / 700 / 800 / 1000

Famous Warrior does 1,000 damage every time El Cid activates it which is a pretty hefty amount of damage. Plus, it disables the enemy’s normal attack and active skill for up to 1 second. This gives some extra boost to improving the ability to withstand incoming damage – though, it’s temporary.

El Cid’s troops have a 10% chance to deal additional damage to the target.

Upgrade Preview:

Additional Damage Factor: 500 / 600 / 700 / 800 / 1000

In addition to that, the troops under this legendary commander’s leadership have a small chance to do 1,000 damage. Which is certainly a nice boost and works independently of the active skill. Although, the chance to deal extra damage is somewhat small. Yet, solid for long-paced battles and as a support commander.

Guardian of Valencia

Increases archer units’ defense and march speed.

Upgrade Preview:

Archer Defense Bonus: 10% / 12% / 14% / 16% / 20%
Archer March Speed Bonus: 5% / 7% / 9% / 12% / 15%

If you roll full archer build with El Cid, then all of the archers will get 20% defense bonus. Plus, they march 15% faster on the map that helps a lot with mobilizing the troops around.

Unyielding
Unyielding ROK

When Cid’s army has been reduced to less than 50% of his units, increases the damage of all troops and march speed of all troops. The effect lasts until the army is disbanded.

Upgrade Preview:

Damage Bonus: 5% / 10% / 15% / 20% / 25%
March Speed Bonus: 5% / 10% / 15% / 20% / 25%

Unyielding gives El Cid the ability to perform retreat when needed to. Plus, if the army strength of El Cid falls below 50% then the troops will do 25% extra damage. Which is definitely a nice boost, although not that major.

Out of Control
Out of Control ROK

Increases damage dealt to infantry units by archer units by 5%, and decreases damage taken from infantry units by archer units by 5%.

The 5% damage bonus and damage reduction towards infantry when running archers is extremely minor. It doesn’t really help out a lot considering some commanders like Genghis Khan and Takeda Shingen get big boosts to their troops. This passive skill is somewhat disappointing however if you know how to play El Cid good, then this enhanced skill can be a nice minor bonus.

Best El Cid Talent Trees

Coming up next is the talent builds which we recommended using El Cid. As I mentioned previously that this legendary commander doesn’t have a good skill set which makes it difficult to play him as the main primary role with the talent builds.

However, early in the game or when you are playing with other commanders who have the same focus as El Cid does, you might find in times that he shines a lot because his skill will increase the damage factor of both Active and Passive skill from the troops’ normal attack. A nice boost. Here’s a list of our best El Cid talent builds in Rise of Kingdoms:

PvP Talent Build

El Cid PvP Talent Build ROK

This is by far one of the best talent builds for El Cid. It simply focuses on dramatically improving the attack, defense, health and march speed bonuses of the archers under his leadership. The speed of rage generation is also improved which really plays a pivotal role in being able to use his active skill as often as he can to deliver a series of massive blows.

Additionally, when you play a secondary commander with El Cid as the primary commander, the damage of active skill is increased roughly by 15%. A nice bonus, especially when you are playing with big league legendary commanders like Yi Seong-Gye that will bring an extra 50% damage to active skill.

Solid for PvP Battles like Arenas and Expedition.

Field Talent Build

El Cid Field Talent Build ROK

If you prefer to play El Cid as your support commander. By the way, that means El Cid takes the backseat while your more powerful commanders takes the frontline. This talent build focuses on building rage at an accelerated pace to deliver heavy blows.

At the same time, damage taken from skills is reduced which really helps a lot with shedding off the incoming damage. Good talent build for providing support to your frontline commanders.

Star Level & Talent Point Upgrade Priority

In the next part of our Best El Cid commander guide, I am going to talk about star level & talent point upgrade priority to maximize your commander’s combat potential. Here’s how to prioritize your El Cid effectively:

PvP Talent Build:

  • Keep El Cid at 1 ⭐ until you max out his first skill.
  • Level El Cid at 2 ⭐ until you max out his second skill.
  • Level El Cid at 3 ⭐ until you max out his third skill.
  • Level El Cid at 4 ⭐ until you max out all of his skills.

Field Talent Build:

  • Keep El Cid at 1 ⭐ until you max out his first skill.
  • Level El Cid at 2 ⭐ until you max out his second skill.
  • Level El Cid at 3 ⭐ until you max out his third skill.
  • Level El Cid at 4 ⭐ until you max out all of his skills.

Best Commander Pairs

Now that we have reached the part where we are going to share our recommended commanders to pair with El Cid. Likewise, a sole commander isn’t any powerful as a duo commander. Which means, if you want El Cid to play at his best game then you want to pair him with another commander who has the same specialization as he does, which means archery only.

Hermann

Hermann Commander Rise of Kingdoms

If you are looking for a commander to pair with who is capable of building rage fast and keeping your enemy nukers locked down. Hermann is definitely one of the best pairs to work with. He takes the role as a secondary commander and gives a number of buffs to archers.

Every time he silences the enemy target, their rage is reduced. Plus, your troops will have a small chance to gain 100 rage each attack. Which really helps a lot with disarming your enemy’s normal attacks and active skill for a brief duration.

Yi Seong-Gye

Yi Seong-Gye Commander Rise of Kingdoms

Any players looking to dramatically boost the damage of archers under El Cid’s leadership will want to pair with Yi Seong-Gye. In this combo, Yi Seong-Gye takes the position as either primary or secondary commander. (We recommended primary).

His active skill does massive damage upwards to 5 targets. Plus one of his passive skills increases the damage of active skill by 50%. Which means El Cid can dish out 1,500 direct damage every time he uses it. The speed of rage is also greatly improved that helps a lot with maintaining uptime on disarming the enemy target.

Ramesses II

Ramesses II Commander

This legendary commander is one of the newest additions in Rise of Kingdoms Patch Notes 1.0.31. Ramesses II is a well equipped commander capable of doing significant amounts of damage with his powerful skills.

One of the main reasons why you should consider pairing him with El Cid is due to Ramesses II’s ability to reduce the enemy defense, boosting archer attack and defenses. Plus skill damage taken is reduced and march speed is increased which makes him a good choice to synergy with.

In this combo, Ramesses II should take the position as primary commander due to his two skills: Archer & Attack. Which means the damage is dramatically improved under his leadership as the primary commander and El Cid stands to benefit a lot with Ramesses II’s talent builds.
