Background Information

Artemisia I is one of the most influential female commanders during the Persian naval battle of Peloponnese.
When Xerxes planned to launch a naval battle, all commanders advised him, except Artemisia I. Because of her intelligence and well-thought words, Xerxes was pleased with her.
Despite her advice, Xerxes went ahead and commanded a naval battle against the Greek ships.
During the Battle of Salamis, she captained a fleet of navy and sunk Greeks ships. Xerxes watched the battle himself and uttered, “Men has become women. Women have become men.”
After the Battle of Salamis, Artemisia I was honored with a full Greek suit.
She held considerable influence power over Xerxes and helped him make the decisions that led to series of victory battles.
After her death, she was succeeded by her son, Pisindelis, who became the tyrant ruler of the Caria kingdom.

Unlike other commanders, she takes on a unique approach that involves dealing massive damage to the enemy targets while dealing a minor amount of damage to herself.
To a certain extent, she could be considered one of the first suicidal commanders in Rise of Kingdoms.

|
On the first impression, the Battle of Salamis might come across as confusing why it would deal damage to your commander in the first place.
However, the 300 self-damage is mitigated through our recommended talent builds, so the net of self-damage is zero.
In this case, the Battle of Salamis is a solid and incredibly powerful active skill that does a ton of damage upwards to 3 targets.
Bow and Mount |

Queen of Caria |

When rage accumulates to 80%, there’s a 50% chance to silence self for 3s, but increase all damage dealt for 5 seconds. Upgrades:
|
It is somewhat counter-intuitive since our recommended talent builds already mitigate the active skill damage.
So the self-silence might be challenging for some of the players who want to maximize their active skill to full potential.
However, the trade-off is 50% increased damage for 3 seconds that does play well with our recommended talent builds.

Our recommended talent builds already mitigate the enemy active damage bonus.
Best Artemisia I Talent Trees
As you know that we have tailored unique talent builds that works well for Artemisia I.
You must invest points into self-healing talent points to neutralize the self-damaging active skill.
Furthermore, a portion of points goes towards offsetting the enemy active damage buff.
In total, Artemisia I is an excellent defender and offender commander using these optimal talent builds.
Garrison Talent Build

The Garrison talent build is the best pick by default for Artemisia I.
This talent build eliminates self-damage inflicted by her active skill through bolstering healing effect. At the same time, it reduces overall incoming damage from the enemy’s active skill.
Which makes the Garrison talent build a solid choice for the archer commander. Artemisia I also comes with improved rage generation that allows her to utilize her active skill more often.
Plus, if she ever gets self-silenced, she will take advantage of the 50% increased damage to do even more damage towards enemies.
Overall, it’s a solid talent build for governors who wants to defend their city and maximizing damage output.
PvP Talent Build

If you prefer to play Artemisia I for PvP purposes, you can do with this talent build.
One of the main advantages of this talent build is that Artemisia I can inflict damage up to three targets with her active skill.
Afterward, her archer troops will do increased damage along with sustained damage to do quick work out of enemies with relative ease.
While Artemisia excels at defending your city, she is equally good for PvP battles as long as you play her defensively and maximize her defensive skill set.
You might as well want to pair her with other commanders that have the defense talent ability.
Field Talent Build

Alternatively, if you want to provide additional support to friendly commanders out on the field, then you should use the Field Talent Build for Artemisia I.
This talent build focuses on generating rage fast enough to allow the legendary commander to maximize her damage bonus for a short duration before inflicting significant damage against multiple targets.
Whenever Artemisia’s army is below 30% health with this talent build, her rage generation increases, which is a big damage booster.
Plus, the march speed is improved that enables Artemisia I to become an effective skirmisher in Rise of Kingdoms.

Best Artemisia I Commander Pairings
Since Artemisia I is both an archer commander and garrison commander, the choice to pair her with other commanders is somewhat limited.
Which is why we assembled a list of strong commanders that specializes in defense as they will further improve Artemisia I’s combat strength.
That being said, let’s find out who is the best commander pairings to go with Artemisia I.
Wu Zetian

One of the best defensive commanders to pair with is Wu Zetian. Just like Artemisia I, she excels at defending your city against potential attackers.
Wu Zetian comes with an active skill that deals high damage and heals troops, which provides a nice buffer against self-inflict damage.
In addition to that, both commanders will gain 20% counterattack damage which is a must-have for any PvP battles.
When Wu Zetian is paired with Artemisia I, both commanders will have a chance to deal damage upon countering attacks.
On top of that, Wu Zetian reduces incoming skill damage by 15% and increases defense by 20%, which is much needed.
Yi Seong-Gye

Yi Seong-Gye makes an excellent secondary commander to Artemisia I. When you pair both together, you build a formidable defender combo.
Both specialize in archery and will benefit from each other a lot.
The main reason why Artemisia I stays as the primary garrison commander is to maintain her neutralized self-damaging active skill.
In addition to that, Yi Seong-Gye gives a 50% active skill damage bonus. It means Artemisia I will deal upwards of 2,700 damage per target.
A massive boost along with Yi Seong-Gye’s powerful active skill ability.
If you don’t have him yet, then Kusunoki Masashige is an excellent choice. Hermann also works out pretty well, thanks to his silencer active skill.
Mehmed II

If you are looking for good secondary commanders to pair within PvP battles (aside from attacking enemy garrisons which you shouldn’t do with Artemisia I at all), it is Mehmed II.
He is flexible and comes with a good skill set to boost the archers’ attack, defense, and health.
Plus, he also increases the damage of active sill, which is a nice bonus on the top. Mehmed II is renowned for his powerful nuker active skill.
So if you want to be able to do tons of damage with Artemisia, do this pair. Alternatively, you can do with Osman I if you don’t have the legendary commander yet.
Julius Caesar

Julius Caesar is an excellent debuffer and will make it a ton more accessible for the archers under Artemisia I’s leadership to kill enemy targets quickly.
In addition, Julius Caesar can provide damage reduction and attack boost modifier that increases overall combat effectiveness.
Plus, this combo expands the size of troop capacity, which means you can bring more archers to do higher damage output.
Overall, a solid combo if you are looking for an excellent debuffer to help weaken your enemy targets and do more damage.
Scipio Africanus is a good alternative option.
